A community partnership for clean and renewable energy.

We had a great time working with AeonSolar for the PowerUp NY Solar Installation Party as part of the 350.org Global Work Party event on 10/10/10. There were twelve volunteers in all who helped install 24 solar panels in two arrays on the roof of a residential brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Each panel is expected to produce 250 kilowatts of electricity for a total of 6,000 kilowatts for the whole system.

First, we passed the panels relay-style from the building basement, up the stairs, and to the roof of the building, which made for fast work thanks to all of the volunteers. Then, Rob Ashmore and Al Frishman did a great job of teaching the technical details of the installation process and provided background on the permitting issues, such as keeping the array below the sightline from the sidewalk level and maintaining a six-foot walkway for fire crew.

We installed twelve panels in the morning shift and twelve in the afternoon shift, completing the installation in less than five hours, including a 100% vegan, latin-themed lunch break provided by Steve Simicich from V Spot. Thanks to everyone who came out.
